Progress - Chapter 3 - In a very long book

Image
We have been experiencing progress in many ways on Lynn Creek Road.  Our acreage is a constant work in progress, with the bulk of that falling on Johnny's shoulders.  We (mainly Johnny and his brother) cut down large trees and small trees and "devil trees" and piled them up into an huge burn pile.  Then we burned the pile.  (See previous post)  Then drove over the pile and pushed it back together to burn it down again into ashes.  Then picked up hundreds of branches and sticks and rocks and finally have a beautiful area that will be our backyard - free of stickers and thorns and rocks and sticks.  I'm especially proud of the before and after pictures of the landscape.  It looks like a homestead coming together.   Before....see the large pile of trees and brush? After!!!  Looks so great!! But today, we have a new type of progress that we have been patiently (....I've not been so patient...

Baby Steps

Every little thing is a BIG thing. Johnny spent a couple of long Saturdays trimming trees and clearing the land around us, forming a pretty impressive pile - the burn pile. And last Friday we experienced a 4 day (it was still smoldering Monday morning) epic bonfire. And it absolutely got the job done!  Now we will have a clear view down to the creek from the back porch.  This afternoon,  our builders dug out the trenches to be able to bury our water and electrical lines. We appreciate all of the steps no matter how small they may seem to the building.  They all add up to a completed home!

How it started...

"So, this is a little crazy, but hear me out..." and a couple months later, we've left our home, our jobs, security and our predictable lives for our new adventure. And once we decided to take the leap of faith, faith in God's plans and faith in one another,  we started working on building our adventure. We looked at dozens of floor plans for a metal home with an open concept and just the right size for us and Buck. We finally thought, let's just design what we want and need. Very simple. And all ours. And with the land that we bought, we could just picture the large back porch overlooking the creek, watching the deer feed and the sun set behind the hills. So with our amazing builder chosen, we handed our plans over and gave him our trust.  We went down and worked on clearing the land and getting a driveway ready. Johnny's brother and his wife have been working right alongside of us. The day the builders came and cleared our plot made everything se...

Choosing our own adventure!

Wow, where to start. A new page. A new chapter. A whole new book, really. An adventure. When you call it an adventure, it tends to take the fear out and fill you with anticipation for what's to come. So what's to come?  Two new jobs in a totally new part of Texas for us. All of our necessities for living packed into a toy hauler camper trailer. And the rest of all of our memories, pictures, furniture, clothes and "junk" sitting in my brother in law's garage shop, waiting for a new home. We are parked in our camper on our land - OUR land. And at the moment, over looking a beautiful cement slab, hoping to see a beautiful house take shape soon. So here I will document the progress we are experiencing so that we can look back and see how we built our next adventure!
